TUF Episode 8 Recap

I’m sure all of you guys have seen the fight by now. I’m late, again.

Anyway, Marcus Jones from Team Rampage and Mike Wessel are the last two fighters to go at it.

At the house, Wessel talks about his wife and her battle with cancer. He agonizes over being at the house for so long and wonders how she’s doing, which is more than understandable.

Meanwhile, Schaub from Team Rashad draws some comical pictures of Jones and Wessel writes an offensive remark underneath it. This sets Jones off. He gets angry because he says his kids will watch this. (Which, is funny because he’s cursing at the time.) He says he plans to rip off whoever’s arm that did it. Hmmm.

The Fight:

Wessel closes the distance and looks to throw some shots. Jones scores a takedown and after a few sub attempts, locks in one of the quickest armbars I have seen. Team Rampage finally gets its first win.

Result: Marcus Jones wins by armbar in the first round.

After the fight, the coaches are called to set the quarterfinal bouts.

Here are the matchups:

Roy Nelson vs JustinWren

Brendan Schaub vs Jon Madsen

James McSweeney vs Matt Mitrione

Marcus Jones vs Darrill Schoonover

Thoughts:That armbar really shocked me. I was expecting “Big Baby” to come out and swing for the fences. However, what most don’t know is, this guy is a Gracie BJJ black belt. He’s very dangerous on the ground. He’s got 5 pro fights and he’s 4-1. Most of his wins by KO. To me, it was just a joy to watch this guy train. He looks like a little kid at Christmas. You can tell he definitely loves the sport and is relishing this opportunity.

Here are my predictions for the quarters:

I think Wren is going to surprise Nelson.

Schaub will be too much for Madsen.

I’m thinking McSweeney over Mitrione.

Finally, I like Big Baby over Schoonover.
